AMMAN — A Royal Decree was issued on Thursday proroguing the current extraordinary session of the Lower House as of Tuesday, June 30, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

On June 1, Parliament was summoned under a Royal Decree to convene an extraordinary session to endorse a closed list of bills, including the draft political parties law, which was endorsed by the two chambers.

The House was scheduled to discuss in the extraordinary session the 2015 decentralisation and municipalities’ bills.

However, due to a dispute between the government and the Lower House over the draft decentralisation law, they agreed to postpone deliberating the reform-oriented bill to the next extraordinary session, expected after Ramadan.

The Lower House also endorsed the 2015 amendments to the Independent Elections Commission Law that expanded the powers of the agency to administer parliamentary and municipal elections, in addition to any other polls assigned to it by the government.

A draft law was also endorsed governing the work of the projected Crown Prince Hussein Foundation which will work to support voluntary, social and charitable work in the Kingdom.

Under the Constitution, lawmakers can only debate bills that are listed in the Royal Decree during extraordinary sessions.
