AMMAN — Special teams from the criminal investigation and anti-narcotics departments on Wednesday executed joint raids in the Eastern Badia and arrested six suspects wanted for car theft and drug trafficking, according to the Public Security Department (PSD).
One raid, carried out at dawn, targeted four suspects wanted for cases related to drugs, participating in fights and carrying unlicensed weapons, the PSD said in a statement sent to The Jordan Times.
After identifying the location of the suspects, the teams set a plan to raid the house and arrest the four suspects, one of whom is wanted for 13 cases related to car theft, according to the PSD.
The teams also found a car without licence plates at the site, believed to be stolen, the PSD said, adding that the suspects are still being questioned.
Two suspects reportedly involved in drug trafficking were arrested in another raid without any incidents.
A search of the house where the suspects were found netted two kilogrammes of heroin, one kilogramme of hashish, a pistol and an AK-47 assault rifle, according to the PSD.
In another case, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel arrested 12 suspects in connection with the shooting death of a man in the capital’s Sweileh neighbourhood on June 14.
On that day, the Northern Amman PSD received a call that a man was shot while he was sitting in a friend’s shop when a group of gunmen started shooting at it; the man was immediately hospitalised but did not survive.
Forensic examination revealed that the man died of several gunshot wounds to the chest, the PSD said.
A CID investigative committee identified a group of suspects wanted for robbery, theft and shootings, and arrested the 12 suspects at different locations and times, and seized weapons found in their possession, one of which was proven to have been used in the Sweileh crime.
The suspects confessed to shooting at the shop in revenge against its owner with whom they have disputes, the PSD said, adding that the seized weapons included an automatic weapon, a pump-action rifle and two pistols.
The suspects are still being questioned.
