AMMAN — More than 800 Jordanian expatriates will convene at the Dead Sea next month to discuss issues that concern them, Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh announced late Saturday.

Organised under the slogan “Jordan brings us together,” the conference will discuss four main issues, according to Judeh, who noted that “political” issues will be one of them where participants will be briefed about the political situation in Jordan, security and challenges.

Economic issues, Jordanians abroad (successes, challenges and solutions) and the role of the country’s diplomatic missions will also be on the agenda of the July 28-30 conference, according to the minister.

Haitham Abu Alfoul, director of the ministry’s expatriate affairs department, said the conference is being held to enhance expatriates’ relations with their homeland, and discuss their main challenges in order to improve services provided to them through the Kingdom’s embassies.

Conference participants were and will be selected to represent all segments of Jordanians living abroad, according to Abu Alfoul.

Invitations were sent to some expatriates, while others can apply through the conference’s website (jec.gov.jo).

A committee will study the applications, the deadline for which is July 1, and select participants.

Judeh said several committees were formed to arrange for the conference, while a delegation from the ministry visited 14 countries in Europe, North America and other regions, and met with Jordanians there in preparation for the event, which seeks to come up with tangible results and initiatives to benefit Jordanians abroad.

He also noted that developing a database of Jordanian expatriates will also be discussed.
