Monarch receives several WEF participants

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Friday held separate meetings with heads of state, and political and UN figures who are taking part in the World Economic Forum (WEF), currently under way at the Dead Sea.

King Abdullah met separately with President of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Iraqi Vice President Ayad Allawi, Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane, Moroccan Parliament Speaker Rachid Talbi Alami, Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz, UN Special Representative in Libya Bernardino León and Taro Kono, member of the Japanese Liberal Democratic Party and the House of Representatives.

During the meetings, held at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Centre at the Dead Sea, discussions centred on bilateral ties with their respective countries, and ways to enhance them.

Talks also addressed the latest regional and international developments, according to a Royal Court statement.

During the meeting with Abbas, attended by HRH Crown Prince Hussein, the Monarch reaffirmed Jordan’s stance that supports achieving peace and reaching a solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the two-state solution and international resolutions.

At the meeting with Allawi, His Majesty highlighted the Kingdom’s stance in support of Iraqis’ efforts to enhance security and stability in their country, and to include all Iraqi components in the political process to achieve Iraqis’ aspirations for a better future.

The meeting also addressed efforts to combat terrorism and extremist groups, in addition to supporting the Iraqi government in its fight against these organisations that pose a threat to the security and stability of the entire region and its peoples. 

The King’s meeting with León reviewed efforts to deal with the Libyan crisis and the importance of reaching a political solution that guarantees the security and stability of the North African country and its people.

Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh and King’s Office Director Jafar Hassan also attended the meetings.

Also on Friday, King Abdullah met with Jordanian expatriates, and underscored their role as the country’s ambassadors abroad. 

Expressing his pride in the expatriates in portraying a bright image of Jordanians, he commended their success and emphasised their role in promoting investment opportunities in the Kingdom. 

At the meeting, attended by Her Majesty Queen Rania and Crown Prince Hussein, King Abdullah highlighted key economic sectors that can attract investments, as well as the country’s qualified and trained human resources.  

On the sidelines of the WEF, the King also met with UAE Minister of State Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber and his accompanying delegation. 

In addition, His Majesty received representatives of several companies participating in the forum, including Tesla, BMW, Mercedes and Renault.
