AMMAN — Mutah University students now have a chance to learn more about Korean expertise in renewable energy engineering under a Korean corporate social responsibility (CSR) project.

The project entails Korean energy specialists delivering lectures at Mutah University each semester for the next two years to boost the expertise of Jordanian students in this field.

This semester, Lee Hyun-hwa, president of the Hanvit DNS renewable energy engineering department, is delivering lectures about different green energy topics at the university.

The lectures focus on green energy prospects and trends, management of solar generation and combined power cycles, under the CSR project, sponsored by the Korea Southern Power Company (KOSPO) and Korea Business Centre Amman, (KOTRA), according to a KOTRA statement sent to The Jordan Times.

Mutah University and KOSPO signed a memorandum of understanding this week, paving the way for this cooperation.

Signalling the beginning of the expertise-sharing experience, Eun-Ho Jo, the commercial attaché of the embassy of the Republic of Korea in Amman, on Monday presented university students with an overview of the Korean economy.

The programme is expected to help in developing Jordan’s renewable energy capacity and outstanding students will have a chance to be hired at KOSPO’s projects such as the Tafileh Wind Power project, added the statement from KOTRA, the commercial office of the Korean embassy in Amman.

This cooperation comes on the heels of the Korea-MENA Smart Grid Technology forum which was held by KOTRA Amman in December 2014, the statement said.
