AMMAN — HRH Crown Prince Hussein will chair on Thursday the UN Security Council (UNSC) open debate on the “Role of Youth in Countering Violent Extremism and Promoting Peace".
The Crown Prince will deliver an address focusing on the importance of engaging the young in peacemaking, countering violence and boosting security in conflict-afflicted areas, a Royal Court statement said.
The open debate will address the connection between youth, violent extremism, sustainable development, and the social and economic dimensions.
Jordan has been actively engaged in efforts to counter terrorism through reaching out to the youth, who are seen as a main recruitment target of terrorist organisations, which take advantage of political frustration, unemployment and poverty to argue in favour of their violent strategies.
