AMMAN — Members of the General Federation of Jordanian Women (GFJW) on Wednesday discussed its achievements, activities and challenges.
At a meeting with HRH Princess Basma, GFJW members highlighted the main challenges facing the federation’s activities across the Kingdom, mainly the marketing of societies’ products, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Other challenges are related to the continued influx of Syrian refugees into the Kingdom over the past four years and its impact on host communities, they said at the meeting, held at the headquarters of the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development.
The GFJW members also said that capacity-building projects are not enough, especially since the federation offers training programmes for women in various trades.
Princess Basma commended the federation’s various activities across the Kingdom and women’s efforts in various voluntary fields, according to Petra.
Expressing her understanding of the difficulties they face, she urged them to build on previous accomplishments and to deal with obstacles to achieve the federation’s goals.
GFJW President Nuha Maaytah highlighted two agreements signed by the federation’s societies.
Under the first agreement, signed with the Planning Ministry, GFJW has worked to secure grants for its societies to set up income-generating and service projects, amounting to 55 projects so far, Maaytah said.
Under the second agreement, signed with the British embassy to offer training to members of municipal councils, the federation helped facilitate training for around 800 people, so far, she added.
Maaytah called for launching marketing projects to overcome societies’ main problem.
Salma Nims, secretary general of the Jordanian National Commission for Women, underscored the importance of networking with supporting institutions such as the Labour Ministry.
