Cabinet endorses strategy to address shortage in imams

By Petra - Mar 04,2015 - Last updated at Mar 04,2015

AMMAN — The Cabinet on Wednesday approved a strategy to deal with the shortage of imams and other workers at mosques across the Kingdom.

Under the strategy, several steps will be taken to ensure that mosques have qualified clerics, who are well-versed in Sharia (Islamic law) teachings, and who can convey the true image of Islam.

The measures include employing Education Ministry employees with Sharia degrees and coordinating with the Civil Service Bureau to attract graduates of Arabic and history who are qualified and interested in working as imams.
