AMMAN — The recovery rate of young leukaemia patients at King Hussein Cancer Centre stands at 90 per cent, which is the highest at an international level, HH Princess Dina Mired, director general of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation, said Sunday.
But this success becomes — at times — futile because these children grow up to become smokers, the princess added in a statement issued on the occasion of the International Day of Childhood Cancer.
“...We work to the best of our abilities to spread awareness about the fatal risks of smoking on health in general and how it is strongly related to cancer in particular,” she said, citing studies that a third of cancer cases and 80 per cent of lung cancer cases are caused by smoking.
She called for stricter implementation of the Public Health Law, which prohibits smoking in public places.
