Cultural activities planned to mark 65 years of Indo-Jordanian ties

AMMAN — The embassy of India in Amman will hold several cultural activities, starting this month, to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Jordan.  

Marking the occasion — which coincides with the 66th Republic Day of India, celebrated on January 26 every year — an Indo-Jordanian photography exhibition will be held at the Royal Cultural Centre between January 27 and February 3.

Held in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, the exhibition sheds light on the progress of relations between the two countries, according to an embassy statement.

On the first day of the exhibition, Neeta Ashwin will a give a performance of Bharatanatyam, a classical Indian dance from south India. 

The photography exhibition will be accompanied by another exhibition showcasing Islamic monuments in India, the statement said. 

A one-week Bollywood Film Festival will also be held alongside the two exhibitions. All movies will be screened with English subtitles.

Furthermore, a 10-day saree exhibition titled “Magic of Indian Weaves” will open at Ras Al Ain Gallery on February 1.  

On March 10, the “Santoor Troupe” led by Varsha Agarwal will perform as part of the festivities, according to Vimarsh Aryan, an embassy official, who explained that the santoor is an ancient string instrument. 

An Indian food festival will also be held on March 11 at the Grand Hyatt Amman, while an India week will be held in Aqaba in collaboration with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority between March 12 and 18, according to the embassy statement.
