AMMAN — A Syrian woman, who went into coma 10 days ago after allegedly being beaten up by her Syrian husband, died on Thursday at an Irbid hospital, official sources said.
The husband of the 17-year-old victim reportedly hit her with a wooden stick following a domestic dispute at their home in a village near the northern city of Irbid on January 6, a senior official source said.
The girl, who was not identified, went into a coma and the husband was sent to prison, the official told The Jordan Times.
The teenager succumbed to her injuries at dawn on Thursday, the source added.
A post-mortem examination conducted by a team of pathologists headed by Ali Shotar from the Irbid National Centre for Forensic Medicine concluded that she died of multiple bruises to her head inflicted by a blunt object, a medical source said.
“The woman received over 10 blows on her head, neck and back,” the medical source added.
The husband will be referred to the criminal court prosecutor, who is expected to charge the suspect with murder since his wife passed away, the senior official source said.
