Ministry to draft 3-year financial action plan

AMMAN — The Cabinet on Wednesday tasked the Finance Ministry with preparing an executive plan for financial reform for the years 2015-2017.

During a session chaired by Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, the Cabinet decided that the envisioned plan should be coupled with a time frame for implementation and indicators to periodically measure progress, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The plan will be endorsed before the end of the year along with the financial reform programme that is being implemented under the supervision of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The financial reform programme will be conducted based on the fifth review of the Kingdom's financial reform plan conducted in cooperation with the IMF.

It also coincides with the referral of the draft 2015 state budget and the independent government units' budgets draft laws to the Lower House for endorsement.

The importance of the reform programme stems from the government’s commitment to addressing budget deficit and indebtedness, Petra said, while improving international organisations' confidence in the Kingdom's financial reform process.

The Council of Ministers tasked the financial minister with forming a committee representing ministries and government agencies that will be responsible for facilitating the mission, according to Petra.
