RSCN to study role of Aqaba habitat in attracting migrating birds

Dec 18,2014 - Last updated at Dec 18,2014

AMMAN — The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) will study the role of newly created environmental habitats at the Ayla Oasis project in Aqaba in attracting migrating birds.

Under an agreement signed on Wednesday between the RSCN and Ayla Oasis Development Company, the society will study the importance of the project’s new environmental habitats in attracting birds migrating between the northern and southern hemispheres, according to an RSCN statement e-mailed to The Jordan Times.

The RSCN said Aqaba is located on the world’s second most important bird migration route and is categorised as an important bird area.

In the statement, the society said a similar agreement signed with the company last year resulted in registering 50 bird species in the project’s habitats.
