AMMAN — Edraak, a massive open online courses initiative of the Queen Rania Foundation for Education and Development (QRF), has received the award for Excellence in Education from the Global Thinkers Forum in recognition of QRF’s efforts in improving the quality of education in the Arab world.
QRF CEO Haifa Dia Al Attia received the award at the Global Thinkers Forum Awards Gala in Dubai, which was held in partnership with Dubai Business Women’s Council in late November, according to a QRF statement.
The forum’s theme for this year was “Arab Women as Change Makers: A Celebration of Achievements”.
During the event, 15 honorees from the region were awarded for their contribution as leaders towards change as well as their expertise.
Since Her Majesty Queen Rania launched Edraak (www.edraak.org) in May 2014, it has reached 115,000 registered users, 35 per cent of whom are females.
“With 14 courses released to date, Edraak is keen on providing online courses that meet learners’ needs as well as the demands of the market, offering topics spanning... arts and sciences to education for employment and citizenship,” the statement said.
“The platform aims to enrich Arab higher education by offering access to courses taught at the best universities in the world and broadcasting Arab professors and academics as well as professionals to the region offering original Arabic content.”
