Faisali fans protest club’s performance outside Parliament

AMMAN – Dozens of angry fans of Faisali Football Club gathered outside Parliament on Tuesday calling for the resignation of the administration after a series of poor results in the local league. 

Fans of Jordan’s most successful club in terms of trophies chanted slogans against the administration of Sultan Odwan as they blame him for the current “poor performance” in the Professional Football League. 

Faisali currently stand in sixth place in the league table with 13 points. 

Odwan has been the president of the club for almost 20 years. 

During the protest outside Parliament, three board members who were among the angry supporters announced their resignation. 

The resigning members are Issam Rawabdeh, Hakem Daaja and Issam Taweel, according to Abdullah Khalayleh, an active member of a group of Faisali fans that has been pushing for the resignation of the administration. 

Fans were chanting “The people want the downfall of the administration,” according to Khalayleh, who said that representatives of the supporters met with the Lower House Youth and Sports Committee. 

The committee issued a statement following the meeting saying that members of the general assembly and fans of the football club requested an investigation into the club’s finances. 

Faisali are Jordan’s oldest club, established in 1932. They have won 32 league trophies, in addition to being crowned as winners of the Jordan Cup 17 times.
