AMMAN — The Association of Queen Rania Al Abdullah Award for Excellence in Education (QRAEE) honoured Jordanian teachers and school counsellors from around the Kingdom on Saturday.

The association recognised 70 teachers and 15 counsellors at the education district level, awarding them certificates of appreciation at a ceremony attended by Education Minister Mohammad Thneibat.

The QRAEE launched “this element of the award last year” to award educators at the district level, recognising 98 teachers in the first cycle, according to a statement sent to The Jordan Times.

Citing association figures, QRAEE Director Lubna Touqan said 46 per cent of the educators who received certificates of appreciation at the district level in 2013 applied for the award at the national level in 2014.

“These educators have proven their leading role within their districts, and we will continue to support them in order to excel and grow into community leaders,” the QRAEE statement quoted Touqan as saying.

This year, the association launched the first cycle of the Distinguished Counsellor Award, the third major award under QRAEE’s umbrella.

A total of 167 counsellors have applied for the new award, 46 of whom were qualified to the pre-field visit interviews. With 15 recognised at the district level on Saturday, seven have qualified to the field visit phase.

Meanwhile, 1,017 teachers have applied for the Queen Rania Al Abdullah Award for Distinguished Teacher this year, 234 of whom were qualified to the pre-field visit interviews.

After 70 have been recognised at the district level, 30 teachers remain eligible for the field visit stage, according to the statement.
