AMMAN — The Education Ministry on Tuesday opened an investigation into an incident the previous day that left an 11-year-old school girl severely injured.
The student was attending the morning assembly at the Retaal International Academy on Monday when a piece of wood fell from the third storey, injuring her head and left ear, according to the Education Ministry’s private education department.
“The girl is in stable condition now and still in hospital,” Farid Khatib, the department director, told The Jordan Times over the phone on Tuesday.
Immediately after the incident, school staff administered first aid to the injured girl and then called the Civil Defence Department to take her to a hospital, according to Khatib.
“If the school is found liable, we will take the necessary measure against it,” he noted.
School officials were not available for comment despite several attempts by The Jordan Times to contact them.
