AMMAN — The criminal court prosecutor on Wednesday will start questioning a 30-year-old man who allegedly shot and killed a passenger on a minivan at the Sports City Circle on Monday, official sources said.

The police arrested the suspect at 4am on Tuesday hours after he reportedly shot a 31-year-old man following an argument over traffic priority, Public Security Department Spokesperson Maj. Amer Sartawi said.

“The suspect, driving a Range Rover, and the driver of the van, a Hyundai, had a fierce argument over right of way that started at the tunnel leading to the Sports City Circle,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

When the two vehicles reached the circle, the two continued their argument and the “driver of the Range Rover pulled out a gun, fired at the van and fled”, the spokesperson added.

A passenger in the van was struck by the bullet and died as a result of his wounds, according to Sartawi.

“We managed to get details of his vehicle from cameras on the circle, and after reviewing our files we identified the owner and where he lives, and arrested him without any incidents,” the official said.

Criminal Court Prosecutor Mohammad Daradkeh is waiting for the police to complete their investigation and refer the file to his office, a judicial source said.

“Once Daradkeh receives the file he will start questioning the suspect and witnesses and charge him,” the source told The Jordan Times.
