MPs plan to head for Gaza in solidarity gesture

AMMAN — More than 30 MPs announced Wednesday that they would head for Gaza to show solidarity with Palestinians in the besieged strip after it came under Israeli aggression two days ago.

The announcement came after the Lower House session on Wednesday, and in response to an invitation by MP Yihya Saud, head of the Palestine Committee in the Lower House.

Prior to the announcement, the MPs gathered in what they described as “emergency meeting” for the Palestine Committee after the Lower House session.

Saud told The Jordan Times that the deputies were still waiting for a response from Egyptian authorities, and were arranging for the flight that will take them to Cairo before they head to Rafah, from where they will cross into Gaza.

“We will stay there until the aggression is over,” Saud said.

According to a source in Parliament, the MPs’ move is not coordinated with the government.

“It is purely a parliamentary move,” Saud said, noting that there was no need to coordinate with the government on this regard.

He said this trip is an attempt to show the world that there are people suffering in Gaza, and added that participating MPs called on parliamentarians across the world, particularly from Arab and Muslim countries, to join them in this effort.
