Lebanese minister due in Amman to discuss ties, refugees

AMMAN — Lebanese Minister of Social Affairs Rashid Derbas is due to visit Amman this week to meet with Jordanian officials and discuss the impact of the Syrian crisis on the two countries, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported Monday.

During his three-day visit, the Lebanese official is scheduled to meet with Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh to discuss bilateral relations, according to the ministry’s spokesperson, Sabah Rafie.

NNA said Derbas and Judeh will “coordinate each country’s stance on the political level with regards to the Syrian crisis”.

In addition, the Lebanese minister, who is in charge of the Syrian refugee issue, will meet with Interior Minister Hussein Majali and UNHCR officials.

Both Jordan and Lebanon have been sharing a similar burden since the beginning of the crisis three years ago, with the Kingdom hosting more than 618,000 Syrian refugees, while Lebanon is home to one million refugees.
