AMMAN — The draw for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Champions League (ACL) Two was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Friday with Wihdat drawn in Group A with UAE’s Wasl, Iran’s Eteghlal, Bahrain Muharraq, while Hussein were drawn in Group C with Iran’s Sepahan, India’s Mohun Bagan SG and Ahal of Turkmenistan.
32 teams will play in 8 groups with the top two moving to the quarters of the 22nd edition of the second tier Asian competition. The West Asia region will start Group stagematches on September 16-17. Prize money for Group stages ranges from $300,000 to $3.28 million for the champion which will be given an indirect preliminary stage slot for the 2026-27 AFC Champions League Elite.
Sharjah are reigning champs, therefore playing in the Elite edition this season. This year, Jordan League champions Hussein and Jordan Cup champions are playing this year, with the Kingdom granted two slots this season, and 1.5 slots as of the following one.
Both teams were eliminated from the Round of 16 in the past season. It was Hussein’s 2nd and Wihdat’s 13th time in the competition which was won by Faisali twice in back-to-back seasons in 2005-2006 and Shabab Urdun once in 2007 when it was called the Asian Champions League Cup.Wihdat reached the semis in 2006, 2007 and 2011. No Jordanian clubs played in 2022.
