AMMAN — The CFI Jordan Pro League starts stage 2 of matches Thursday with Ramtha’s lead slashed to one point ahead of their vital match against Wihdat who are now fourth.
This week Faisali will face Jazira, titleholders Hussein will play Ahli, Shabab Urdun play Salt and Baqa’a play Sarhan before the league breaks again for the national team regroup and friendlies against Tunisia and Mali in November’s phase 3 preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
The upcoming break will be a long one, extending till after the Arab Cup ends in mid-December. Although Jordan Cup and JFA Shield matches will continue without national team players, the fact that many leading club roasters will miss key players, led to debates among coaches as to the efficacy of this strategy, as recalling these players neither serves local competitions, nor the national team, with most being bench players with limited playing time, that does not serve their competitive experience.
Ramtha’s unbeaten run and lead was narrowed after their latest 1-1 draw with Salt which enabled Faisali to catch up within a point at second place after beating Ahli 3-2. Hussein beat Sarhan 4-0 and Jazira held Shahab Urdun 0-0. So far, Faisal’s Ahmad Irsan is the top scorer so far with 7 goals.
In results among the top contenders so far, Hussein so far lost 1-0 t0 Wihdat who in turn lost 2-0 to Faisali. Six coaches have been dismissed after the first 8 weeks, including Wihdat’s Qais Ya’coubi and Darko Nestorovic, Faisali’s Jamal Abu Abed among others at Jazira and Sarhan.
The 73rd edition of the league has 10 team playing in three stages instead of the usual two legs. Baqa’a and Sarhan are the newcomers from the First Division after Ma’an, Sarih, Aqaba, and Mughayer Sarhan were relegated last season. Hussein kicked off 2025/26 season winning the 42nd Jordan Super Cup after overcoming Wihdat on aggregate.
Hussein and Wihdat are also busy with their Asian Champions League Two matches where Hussein have a qualifying chance to the quarters while Wihdat seem to be heading into an early exit.
