AMMAN — Jordan suffered a 2-1 loss to Algeria on Tuesday at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium in their second Group J match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, ending the Nashama's hopes of progressing to the knockout stage.
His Majesty King Abdullah and HRH Crown Prince Hussein attended the match and supported the national team from the stands.
Both sides entered the encounter seeking their first points of the tournament after losing their opening matches. Jordan started brightly despite the pressure, creating several scoring opportunities and showing attacking intent from the outset.
Al Nashama took the lead in the 36th minute when Nizar Rashdan found the net with a right-footed shot from the centre of the box into the bottom-right corner, giving Jordan a deserved advantage before the break.
Algeria responded strongly in the second half as they searched for a way back into the match. Their persistence paid off in the 69th minute when Nadhir Benbouali headed home from the centre of the box to level the score.
Algeria completed the turnaround in the 82nd minute through Amine Gouiri, who fired a right-footed shot from close range into the centre of the goal following a corner kick.
The victory keeps Algeria's hopes of reaching the next round alive heading into the final group-stage match, while Jordan are officially eliminated from the tournament following their second consecutive loss.
Jordan will conclude their historic World Cup campaign against defending champions Argentina on June 28 in their final Group J fixture.
