AMMAN — Hussein Ishaiash qualified for this summer’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro on Friday at the Asian and Oceania qualifying event in Qian’an, China.
The super heavyweight boxer bounced back from his semifinal defeat on Thursday to win the third place “Olympic box-off” against Iran’s Abdolmajid Sepahvandi. HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, president of the Jordan Olympic Committee, congratulated the boxer saying:
“On behalf of the Jordanian sporting family I would like to congratulate Hussein and the Jordan Boxing Federation on this wonderful achievement. Qualifying for an Olympic Games takes years of dedication and we are proud of what has been achieved.
I hope this will inspire other Jordanians to go on and also qualify and we wish them all well in their efforts. This is a great day for Jordan sport.”
