AMMAN — US President Donald Trump has confirmed that the US and Iran have reached an agreement to end the war and open the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on Truth Social platform, Trump wrote, “The deal with Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulation to all!! I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Straight of Hormuz, and simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!.”
Iran said that the newly announced agreement with the United States put an "immediate end" to the countries' war.
"A permanent and immediate end to the war has been declared on all fronts, including Lebanon," Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said in televised comments in the early hours of Monday, quoted by AFP.
Iranian state TV showed a banner saying, “US was forced to sign an agreement to end the war.”
Iran's deputy foreign minister said the country had "won great victories" in the war against the United States, speaking as the sides announced an agreement to immediately end the conflict.
"The enemy that had attacked to carry out its evil aims was defeated in all its aims and the Islamic Republic of Iran won great victories in the war," Gharibabadi said.
US Vice President JD Vance said Sunday he planned to attend the signing of an Iran peace deal in Switzerland in a few days, but that President Donald Trump might go.
"I certainly plan to be there, but it's possible the president himself could be there," Vance told Fox News when asked if he'd be at the ceremony, which mediator Pakistan said would take place in Geneva on June 1.
