‘Zarqa mosques save over JD250,000 by going solar’

AMMAN — Seventy-two mosques in Zarqa are now operating on solar power, saving more than JD0.25 million annually, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, quoted Zarqa Awqaf Director Yousef Shibli as saying Tuesday.

Shibli added that an agreement was signed in order for 20 more mosques to switch to solar energy as of December, noting that next year 100 mosques more will be connected to reach a total of 192. He said that the cost of the photovoltaic panels is expected to be compensated within 24-36 months.
