Zakat Fund to settle debts of 160 indebted women

AMMAN — The board of directors of the Zakat Fund on Monday approved the settlement of outstanding financial debts for 160 eligible gharimat (indebted women) facing financial difficulties. 

During a meeting, chaired by Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and Chairman of the Zakat Fund Mohammad Khalaileh, the board also gave the green light for the renovation of five homes across different regions of the Kingdom, following necessary assessments. 

The board also approved a contract to purchase 255 goats to support small business owners in various governorates, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. 

As part of its modernisation efforts, the board approved a comprehensive programme to automate the Zakat committees’ systems, services, and financial operations, a project to be financed by the fund. 

The board also reviewed several committee decisions and evaluated the fund's financial status.

Khalaileh expressed gratitude to donors and contributors, commending their trust in the fund and emphasising its important role in fostering social solidarity within Jordanian society.

In 2019, His Majesty King Abdullah launched an initiative aimed at providing support to indebted women by covering the debts of eligible gharimat who meet the set criteria. 

The Zakat Fund has been entrusted with overseeing the implementation of this initiative.
