AMMAN – The director of the Zakat Fund on Tuesday announced new plans to serve underprivileged families during Ramadan, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Suleiman Shihan said JD50 grocery coupons would be distributed to those in need, while 225 zakat committees across Jordan will provide iftar meals, the sunset meal to break the daily fast.
The fund will also organise an “Islamic orphan day” on the 15th day of Ramadan, when they will invite 200 orphans to iftar in Amman. A telethon will be held in cooperation with a local radio station on June 13 to collect zakat, the Islamic tax on income.
