AMMAN — The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup trophy will begin its tour of Jordan at Zaatari Refugee Camp on Sunday, a Local Organising Committee (LOC) official said on Thursday.
Nisreen Khazaleh, of the LOC, said the tour would continue around the Kingdom until the beginning of September, to promote the tournament, which opens on September 30.
“The trophy will be touring Amman and the other host cities, Irbid and Zarqa. A number of shopping malls in these areas will host the trophy as well,” she told The Jordan Times over the phone.
The LOC official said people can take photos with the trophy and take part in other planned activities.
“The tour aims to promote the World Cup and to make people aware that the tournament is approaching as well,” Khazaleh said, adding that it would also promote ticket sales.
“There will be live coverage broadcast by social media networks and radio stations,” she noted.
During the championship, some 16 teams will play 32 matches over 22 days in four stadiums in Amman, Irbid and Zarqa.
