AMMAN — Teams from the Royal Department for Environment Protection (Rangers) on Thursday seized a wastewater tanker that discharged its contents in an area of Marj Al Hamam in Amman, according to the Ministry of Water and Irrigation/Water Authority.

The ministry added in a statement on Thursday that the tanker was driven by an unlicensed driver accompanied by another person, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The statement noted that teams from the Royal Department for Environment Protection monitored the tanker, which had no front panels or tracking device, which the Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Transport agreed in 2017 to begin installing on all of the country's septic tankers to prevent random dumping of wastewater.

The driver was detained and escorted to the Marj Al Hamam security centre. The tanker was also seized to complete the investigation and refer the case the judiciary, Petra reported.

The ministry affirmed that such "serious assaults" are being addressed as they pollute water sources and harm citizens' health, as the incidents directly affect drinking water.

The ministry urged the public to contact the unified complaints number 117116 to report any water-related issues, assuring that it will show “no leniency” in dealing with violations that endanger the quality of water.

On Sunday, a wastewater tanker that leaked its contents on Amman's streets was seized and its driver referred to a police station awaiting legal measures.

The Royal Department for Environmental Protection seized the tank in cooperation with the Public Security Department’s main operations and control centre, according to Petra.
