AMMAN — Planning and International Cooperation Minister Imad Fakhouri on Saturday discussed US economic assistance to Jordan with Ambassador Alice G. Wells.
The two officials discussed the US grants, loan guarantees and development projects implemented in Jordan through USAID, according to a statement received by The Jordan Times.
Fakhouri acquainted the diplomat with Jordan’s 2025 economic vision and the development programmes that will come from it, which will include the required reforms to safeguard fiscal stability.
He also highlighted Jordan’s response plan to the Syrian crisis in 2015, which puts the Kingdom’s needs to mitigate the impact of the refugee influx at $2.9 billion, only 5.5 per cent of which has been covered so far.
Fakhouri thanked the US for its constant support for Jordan.
For her part, Wells underlined her country’s commitment to stand by Jordan, citing a memorandum of understanding signed between the countries recently to provide Jordan with $1 billion in support during the coming three years.
She also voiced the US government’s keenness to help the Kingdom in implementing the 2025 economic vision and alleviate the burden of hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees, according to the statement.
