AMMAN – A dangerous and armed wanted drug dealer was killed on Monday by police following a shootout in Central Badia.

Police also announced that they arrested a man from an Arab national during the raid on the dangerous suspect’s home.

“The deceased suspect was considered one of the most dangerous and armed drug dealers in the area and had 24 criminal records and warrant arrests for the State Security Court (SSC),” Police Spokesperson LT. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

The suspect was wanted for cases related to drug trafficking, possessing weapons and firing live ammunition among other offences, Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

“The suspect was located by a special force and the minute he saw them he opened fire,” the police official said.

The force applied the rules of engagement and responded by firing back critically injuring the suspect, Sartawi said.

The suspect was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival, he added.

The special force found four pieces of weapon, live ammunition and an amount of Crystal meth in his possession, according to Sartawi.

The second man arrested in the case had a previous criminal record and was referred to the SSC prosecution for further questioning and indictment, according to a statement by the Public Security Directorate (PSD).

Investigations are ongoing in the case, the PSD statement added.
