Volunteer medics conclude Jordan mission, treat thousands

AMMAN — The Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) on Thursday concluded its medical mission to Jordan, which has provided over 3,674 health services to Syrian refugees and underserved Jordanians.

The six-day medical multi-specialty mission, which offered 79 surgical operations, 117 eye operations and 47 catheters, has included dermatology, family medicine, internal medicine, paediatrics, vascular diseases, cardiology, dentistry, chest diseases, general surgery, ophthalmology and cardiac networks.

The mission, with its team leader Loay Qutop, provided its medical care to patients in eight governorates.

The event was attended by Minister of Social Development Basma Ishaqat, the ministry’s secretary general, Omar Hamzeh, SAMS Chairman Amjad Rass, Kuwaiti embassy representative Muhammed Muzayin, a number of SAMS members and officials from the Health Ministry.

The ministry highlighted the importance of coordination with local and international partners to implement the joint objectives and programmes aimed at providing various services to the society, Hamzeh said.

He praised SAMS’s efforts, noting that their partnership with the ministry is a model for effective partnership, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

For his part, Rass thanked the Jordanian people and the government for their efforts exerted to support the Syrian refugees along with the facilitations granted for the organizations that provide medical services to every patient in need. 

The SAMS Foundation is a global medical relief organisation that is working on the front lines of crisis relief in Syria, in neighbouring countries and beyond, to save lives and alleviate suffering, according to their website.
