Virtual workshop delves into personality types

AMMAN— The Hayat Educational Fund together with Belal Ayyoub hosted on Tuesday a virtual workshop on the 16 personality types using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), providing a privileged access to self-discovery.

People need to know their personality traits and those of other individuals, in order to build better relationships with their families, friends and work colleagues, get to the core of their own thoughts which contrast their behaviours and external observations and lessen problems resulting from being wired differently, Ayyoub, an associate professor at Al-Balqa Applied University, said during the virtual workshop which was hosted via the fund’s Facebook page.

“People need to be completely honest with themselves while taking this test, as the aim is to get the answers they need and not those they prefer,” the university professor expressed.

The MBTI test is a science-backed introspective self-questionnaire in the personality testing field, he added.

Noting that the self-discovery test consists of four dichotomous categories, each category is composed of seven questions whereby respondents record their own answers without interference, aimed at getting detailed and accurate answers.

The self-questionnaire sorts persons into one of the 16 personalities they likely belong to, by using four letter codes, he further said.

The MBTI is based on Carl Jung’s theory of psychological type which indicates people’s personality preferences in four dimensions, including where they focus their attention, the way they take in information, how they make decisions and how they deal with the world, according to the Myers- Briggs Company.

Hayat Educational Fund, is a non-profit organisation dedicated to helping underprivileged young people in obtaining a university degree.
