‘Value of investments in logistics transport, services reached JD20m in ASEZA’

AMMAN — In 2017, the value of investments in logistics transport and support services in the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) amounted to about JD20 million, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Monday.
The length of stay for containers in Aqaba port decreased from 13 days to seven days, while customs control witnessed an increase and organised smuggling and tax evasion dropped.
The ASEZA Chief Commissioner Nasser Shraideh said the customs and warehousing procedures in the transport and handling system increased by 40 per cent and the cost of each container was reduced to JD250.
The number of containers in 2017 reached 64,200 with an increase of 33.5 per cent, and the exported containers witnessed an increase of 2 per cent. Shraideh pointed out that a safe area was allotted by the port authority to store hazardous materials.
