AMMAN — On the third day of her visit to Jordan, Deputy Administrator for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Isobel Coleman met with Minister of Water and Irrigation Mohammad Al Najjar and Secretary General of the Jordan Valley Authority Manar Mahasneh.

Coleman and USAID Jordan Mission Director Sherry F. Carlin toured several water infrastructure sites with Najjar, according to a USAID statement.

They discussed the water sector challenges in Jordan and in the region and emphasised the importance of ongoing collaboration between the United States and Jordan to address these challenges.

During her meeting with Najjar, Coleman highlighted the mutual commitment of the Government of Jordan and the United States to prioritise and act on climate change.

Following the visit to water infrastructure sites, Coleman met with Syrian refugees and Jordanian host community members. During these meetings, she heard first-hand about the experiences of Syrian refugees, Jordan’s refugee response, and the support USAID provides to refugees in Jordan.

In fiscal year 2021, USAID provided a total of $72.8 million to the World Food Programme to support cash and voucher-based food assistance programmes for refugees in Jordan.
