US-Jordan trade exchange reaches JD1.687b in H1 2024 - DoS

AMMAN — Jordan's exports to the United States increased by 14.4 per cent in the first half of 2024 to reach JD1.071 billion, compared with JD936 million in the same period last year, the Department of Statistics (DoS) said on Tuesday.

According to the DoS' foreign trade data, Jordan's trade balance with the United States recorded a surplus of JD455 million in the January-June period. 

The total trade exchange between Jordan and the US rose to JD1.687 billion, compared with JD 1.609 billion in the first half of 2023.

Jordan's imports from the US amounted to JD616 million in the first half of 2024, down 8.5 per cent from JD673 million in the same period last year.

Jordan's main exports to the American market include clothing, jewellery, fertilisers, pharmaceuticals, IT services, food and engineering goods.

 Major imports from the US include metal products, transport equipment, machinery, electrical appliances, cereals, chemicals, and medical equipment.

The US-Jordan Free Trade Agreement, which came into effect in January 2010, has driven an estimated 800per cent increase in bilateral trade since it was signed in October 2000.
