AMMAN — The US Department of State has hailed Jordan as a “committed partner” in counterterrorism and countering violent extremism (CVE).
In its Country Reports on Terrorism 2018, the Department of State commended Jordan’s “leading role” in the global coalition to defeat the Daesh terror group.
“Jordan played an important role in degrading the terrorist group’s territorial control and operational reach,” said the annual report.
In the Levant, Jordan and Lebanon both remained committed partners to the global coalition to defeat Daesh, the report said.
“Jordanian security forces thwarted several plots and apprehended numerous terrorists,” it added.
As a member of the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF), Jordan continues to be a committed partner on Foreign Terrorist Fighter issues in 2018, as co-chair with the US of the GCTF Foreign Terrorist Fighters Working Group, according to the report.
Jordan worked with the UNDP to develop the holistic National Action Plan on Preventing Violent Extremism to establish roles and responsibilities for government entities and promote the involvement of non-governmental organisations, civil society, youth and the private sector in CVE initiatives, according to the report.
The report also commended Jordan’s efforts in combatting terrorist financing.
