AZRAQ REFUGEE CAMP — US Ambassador to Jordan Alice G. Wells on Wednesday inaugurated a water borehole in Azraq Refugee Camp. Water is currently transported by trucks from 45km outside the camp.
The new borehole is located 2.5km from the nearest water storage area inside the camp, according to a UNICEF statement. In addition to reducing water transportation costs, it will also help in contributing to environment conservation and improved living conditions.
With no electricity in the camp to power room coolers, camp residents also use water to cool themselves, according to the statement. The water borehole was constructed by the US government, UNICEF said.
