AMMAN — A specialised medical team from the University of Jordan Hospital, led by neurosurgeon Mahmoud Abdallat, on Tuesday conducted a surgery, involved the implantation of brain electrodes to perform brain mapping on an 8-year-old child. The team included an Anesthesia and Intensive Care Consultant Dr. Khaled Radian Alzaben and Pediatric Neurology Consultant Amal Abu Libdeh, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Abdallat said that the patient had been experiencing electrical discharges for years, unresponsive to medications and conventional brain mapping had failed to identify the source of these discharges. "Therefore, the medical team decided to implant brain electrodes within the brain tissue to determine the location and source of the electrical discharge," he added. The three-hour procedure is considered the first of its kind in Jordan in the field of brain and nerve surgery, according to Abdallat.
