UNICEF to support return of 28,000 Syrian children to schools

AMMAN — UNICEF, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, is preparing to support the return of more than 28,000 Syrian children in the Zaatari and Azraq refugee camps to schools by the start of the new scholastic year in September.

UNICEF pledged in a statement to ensure that all children in both camps get good education to enable them to achieve their objectives and hopes, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The statement called for expanded support for inclusive education for children with disabilities and the creation of new infrastructure, including libraries and playgrounds, as well as providing compensatory education to improve learning, in addition to providing classes for school dropouts and remedial education to help children who were absent from school out to return and complete their education.

UNICEF is currently in need of $12.5 million to continue providing educational services and support efforts of the Ministry of Education in the 2018-2019 scholastic year, the statement said.
