AMMAN — Adele Khodr, UNICEF’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, praised the Jordanian government’s recent endorsement of the draft child rights law, which she saw as a milestone for Jordan’s effort to take care of children.

During her visit to the headquarters of the National Council for Family Affairs, accompanied by UNICEF Deputy Executive Director/Jordan Office Shairose Mawji, she appreciated the council’s role in strengthening the family violence protection system, according to a UNICEF statement.

The council role contributes to the advancement of the family and society as a whole, especially after it was selected as a representative of Jordan in the Global Initiative to End Violence against Children, the statement said.

Khodr also praised the systematic coordination between the council and family institutions to make initiatives that would develop policies and legislation that results in the best interest of the family.

She also lauded programmes implemented by the council and partners to increase the efficiency of institutional workers, to identify mechanisms and procedures in dealing with cases of violence.
