Unemployment rate slightly declines, reaching 22.3% during Q3

AMMAN — The Kingdom’s unemployment rate went down by 0.8 per cent in the third quarter of 2023, reaching 22.3 per cent, compared with the same period in 2022, according to the Department of Statistics (DoS).
The DoS disclosed that the unemployment rate for males was 19.8 per cent in the third quarter of 2023, compared with 31.7 per cent for females. According to the figures, the joblessness rate dropped by 0.7 per cent for men and 1.4 per cent for women compared with the third quarter of 2022.
Unemployment rate among holders of a bachelor's degree or higher reached 28.3 per cent, DoS said, while 57.6 per cent of the overall unemployed population holds secondary or higher education degrees and 41.8 per cent holds educational qualifications lower than secondary school.

At the governorate level, Maan had the highest unemployment rate at 27 per cent, while the port city of Aqaba had the lowest rate of 18.1 per cent.
