UJ hosts 2022 UNIMED General Assembly

AMMAN — The University of Jordan (UJ) hosted the 2022 UNIMED General Assembly under the theme “Shaping the Mediterranean From Cooperation to Integration” on Wednesday and Thursday.

The event, organised by the union in cooperation with the university, was inaugurated by UJ President Nathir Obeidat on behalf of Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Wajih Owais, according to a university statement.

Director of International Affairs Unit Hadeel Yaseen, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Mariya Gabriel (through a video message), and UNIMED President Francisco Matte Bon addressed the event.

The meetings discussed topics such as peace and security, media and skills gap, Euro-Mediterranean academic cooperation, international credit mobility opportunities, digital and open education, employability and entrepreneurship, intercultural dialogue and students’ organisations, good governance, quality assurance and responsibility in higher education in the MENA region.

UNIMED, the Mediterranean Universities Union, was founded in October 1991 as an association of universities from the countries of the Mediterranean basin. Until now, it included 144 Universities from 23 countries on both shores of the Mediterranean
