AMMAN — The University of Jordan (UJ) and China-Arab States Technology Transfer Centre (CASTTC) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation in various fields, including medicine, agriculture, engineering, academics and other fields.

The agreement followed a meeting between UJ President Nathir Obeidat and CASTTC Director Shilong Ji, during which both sides expressed their shared vision of harnessing Chinese expertise in medicine and industry.

The new partnership aims to transfer Chinese agricultural technology and its smart applications to the UJ's agricultural stations. The exchange of high-yield agricultural seeds and the construction of state-of-the-art greenhouses are also key objectives as per the memo, according to a university statement.

In the medical sector, the CASTTC will establish a vaccination centre at the UJ. This initiative not only emphasises the importance of immunisation but also paves the way for cooperation in medical education, Chinese medicine, and the development of joint academic and professional programmes.

The agreement also includes the establishment of several laboratories dedicated to artificial intelligence and electric car maintenance. A specialised laboratory for aerospace engineering and another for smartphone maintenance will be established.

The memo also provides Jordanian students the opportunity to study at prestigious Chinese universities. Similarly, UJ Language Centre will offer Chinese students the chance to learn Arabic.
