Transport ministry, World Bank hold road safety workshop

AMMAN — The Transport Ministry, in cooperation with the World Bank, on Wednesday held a road safety workshop, as part of the technical assistance programme to update the transport sector’s policy and strategy. Secretary General of the Transport Ministry Wissam Tahtamoni said that the workshop was the result of joint cooperation, with a focus on the importance of road safety, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Referring to the statistics issued by the Public Security Directorate, Tahtamoni cited figures showing that some 160,600 traffic accidents occurred in Jordan in 2021, resulting in 589 deaths and 737 serious injuries, 6,325 moderate injuries and 10,423 minor injuries, with a financial cost of JD380 million.

The total cost of traffic accidents in Jordan over the last five years amounted to more than JD1.6 billion, Tahtamoni added.
