Traffic deaths decreased in 2017, compared to 2016

AMMAN — Traffic accidents caused 685 deaths in 2017 compared with 750 deaths in 2016, constituting a decline of 8.7 per cent.Pedestrians accounted for 33 per cent of the deaths (226), drivers accounted for 27.2 per cent (186) and commuters accounted for 39.8 per cent (273), according to the annual report of traffic accidents in Jordan for 2017, issued by the Public Security Department.

The Sisterhood Is Global Institute (SIGI) said that the number of vehicles registered in Jordan until the end of 2017 amounted to 1,583,458, with a rate of one vehicle per 6 people.

A traffic accident resulting in casualties occurs every 50.3 minutes, a collision with a pedestrian occurs every 2.4 hours and one person gets injured every 32.4 minutes, according to a SIGI statement.
