AMMAN — Chairman of General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU) Khaled Fanatseh, discussed on Thursday with Director-General of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Gilbert Houngbo, ways to advance decent work standards for Jordanian workers and address key labour issues at the national level.
The discussions took place on Wednesday evening on the sidelines of the 114th session of the International Labour Conference, currently underway in Geneva.
According to a Federation statement issued Thursday, the two sides reviewed developments related to Jordan's Decent Work Country Programme, launched early last month, and discussed mechanisms to strengthen the role of social partners in implementing its objectives.
The discussions focused on efforts to support labour policy development, improve working conditions and enhance worker protection and trade union representation.
Fanatseh stressed initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality in the labour market, noting that women accounted for 25 per cent of Jordan's delegation to this year's International Labour Conference, reflecting stakeholders' commitment to advancing women's participation and empowerment.
The meeting also addressed regional developments and the impact of ongoing crises on labour markets and social stability. Participants underscored the ILO's role in protecting workers during crises and emergencies and in supporting countries and communities facing economic and social challenges.
