AMMAN – A hot air mass started affecting the Kingdom on Tuesday, pushing temperatures four degrees above their annual average, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said.
The effects of the air mass, which originates from the Arabian Peninsula, are forecast to prevail until the end of the week, JMD meteorologist Raed Rafed said on Tuesday.
“Air masses coming from the Arabian Peninsula are very common and normal during July and August, the hottest two months of the year,” he told The Jordan Times, adding that mercury levels in Amman, which normally stand at 32°Cduring this time of the year, will reach 36°C throughout this week.
As a result, it will be relatively hot in hilly areas and very hot in the badia, Dead Sea and Jordan Valley regions.
“It will also be very hot in Aqaba, with temperatures expected to reach 43°C,” said Rafed, who noted that the average temperature in the southern governorate during this time of year is 39°C.
Temperatures are forecast to range between a high of 36°C and a low of 24°C in Amman, and will stand between 33°C and 22°C in the northern region and 33°C and 16°C in southern areas.
