Tawjihi students protest single-semester examination

AMMAN — A number of high school students on Monday protested the single-semester Tawjihi (general secondary certificate examination) system, staging a demonstration in front of the Education Ministry, demanding the reactivation of the two-semester system.

Ministry Spokesperson Walid Jallad said that that the ministry intends to gradually computerise the Tawjihi in the upcoming years, which would enable students to take each exam more than once within a suitable timeframe, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Examination Department Director Nawwaf Ajarmeh briefed a number of students on the Tawjihi’s latest planned developments, including reducing the total number of courses to eight, of which only seven are to be calculated into the overall average.

The two-semester system allows for two examination sessions, one at the end of every semester, while the single-semester system holds one examination session for all Tawjihi courses at the end of the year.
